How to style Shibori TIE-DYE for Women

It’s summer and it’s bright!! We have found ourselves amidst another new fashion statement which can be daunting to style.

Looking for the Youtube Video? Here it is!

I never thought Shibori & TIE-DYE would be so in for middle-aged women! Actually I still think it’s a bit far out but I’m warming up to the prints and colours as an actual sophisticated styling.

Check out these prints!

Something about shibori and tie-dye makes me so incredibly happy simply because the prints presented remind me of Samarai, and colours are more monochrome or exuberant….totally my style!!!

The more and more I’ve been exploring new types of fabrics, the more I have been very keen on knowing more about the history of it’s birth and currently how it is made. These details are important to understand the whole chain of sustainablilty, protecting my love for everything earth and people right now. SPREADING CARE in a not so careful and careless era.

Shibori A BLAST FROM THE PAST

What does it mean: to wring or squeeze.

The goal: to create pictographic or geometrical patterns by resist dyeing.

Shibori really is all things SAMARAI! It is an ancient indigo dyeing technique dating back to as early as 418 CE. Different shaping processes are used to leave a resistant to dye area. Meaning there are groups of either soft edges, crinkled textures, plucked areas, twisted areas, pleated, bound, or folded areas that are bound between boards or wrapped around poles to compress fabric further. The dye will take form and what you see in the 2 dimensional view is the result after shape, type of resist, and pressure from clamps is used. The degree of artistic vision in shibori is absolutely astounding. More on shibori history here.

“Shows a bound-resist method where pleats are created forming a web and tied with rope resistance.” Shibori.org

Check out shibori.org to learn how this technique is being preserved & sustained to keep these beautiful families working and earning but also connecting the world 🌎.

Honestly after such a doomy and gloomy time, hey why not try some far more fun fashion and a step in the daring section…..The world is finally opening up again after long covid closures, so why not experiment with these styles.

What better way than expressing your inner child, the one that loves vibrance, optimism, expression.

“But wait, how do I style these prints and vibrant colours, yet remain sophisticated“? You ask.

Let’s take a look!

Try This Captivating Skater Dress Look

What a sassy way to start off the shibori meets summer season. The beauty of this dress is, it is not way over the top funky tie dye that you can’t really wear in public for casual errands. Instead this dress is classy, comfy, and seriously fun. The baby-doll cut adds a cute vibe and you can pair it with either high-top sneakers or mules, GG belt purse or a yellow beaded potli bag,

Worn 3 ways: 1) as a dress 2) dress with silk trousers 3) dress , silk trousers, dupatta (Indo-Westen style). Go ahead have some fun with this. The dress was custom made from open fabric. Email us for a custom order of this one: lifestylegrub@gmail.com

Try This Country Casual Look

Casual & Cute

Opt for a slightly relaxed fit pink & white shibori print Tee, pictured here from Joe Fresh. Pair it with a canvas cotton high-waisted skirt in a lighter tone, pictured here from H&M. Keep it casual and chic with a pair of pink oxfords going along with the pattern colour of shirt. Throw on a cross body purse, I have styled my Chanel timeless pillow purse here, a few pandora midi-rings, a pandora 2-tone rose gold bracelet and you are set for a nice stroll in the city parks or country.

Tips: you can purchase any normal rings in a smaller size like 3, 4 or 4.5 to fit as a midi-ring from pandora.

Try These Vancouver Casual Dressy Looks

Option 1: Shibori print 8″ bicycle shorts from Lululemon and a leather shacket from Zara, sequin black belt purse, black embossed wedge sneakers from GUESS . Accessorize with an Anne Klein Rose gold set and a black Louis Vuitton headband.

Option 2: Shibori print bicycle shorts from Lululemon, V-neck tank from RW & Co, pink boyfriend blazer from H&M, pink Chanel handbag, pink mules from Guess. The pink paint mixed in with the black-violet shibori pattern pops more with these pastel shade pink tops.

Accessorizing with Rose gold Anne Klein (I’m definitely loving her accessories As of Right Now). A pink top knot headband, a belt-purse or crossbody purse and oxfords/sneaker-mules are key for a sophisticated Vancouverite look.

Vancouver will always be known for dressing up anything tights!

Long tights, cropped tights, bicycle tights, short tights thanks to Lululemon and Aritzia!

STYLE 4

Try This UPTOWN Sophisticated Look

The beautiful thing about shibori & tie-dye open fabric is anything can be custom made.

Using a pink and purple shibori print mukesh embroidered georgette fabric, I opted for a long tunic straight dress with side slits. This type of dress can also be worn with tights, trousers, jeans, or leather palazzo pants due to its slits ….but my slits simply aren’t that high up so I can wear it as a dress. I also styled as an Indo-Western outfit with a belt purse and shawl over the shoulder.

TIE-DYE

It can be an extravagant & chic fashion statement

Is very much similar to Shibori except the only difference is Shibori will have more intricate designs & a little more detail; Tie-dye tends to be more on the brighter colour side and has a larger blotting type effect. Kind of like spills of colour.

Now we all remember those crazy tees we used wear for school, playing outside, sleeping and pretty much everything else in between 😁✌.

Way back it was okay, but can we really wear these prints on other clothing other than sweats?

Let’s give it a try

Try something that isn’t full of multiple bright colours, go with a mono-colour effect for an elegant sophisticated look.

Elegant Shift Look

Try this beautiful fabric! I have a georgette base tie-dye print in yellow and off-white, with sequin work throughout the fabric. I custom made it into a Shift Dress. This can be worn with or without palazzo pants. The palazzo pant style completed with a shawl gives it an Indo-Western vibe

Style 6

Sophisticated Chic Look

Fun, yet sophisticated city girl with this multi coloured tie-dye skirt. It is a box-pleated midi skirt accessorized with a red t-shirt blouse, Christian Dior.

This look is a DIY Versace outfit. I used iron on logo transfers to decorate the satin silk cropped trousers and flowy blazer. I have completed the look with a black t-shirt style blouse and bright pumps to celebrate the summer business chic style. Check out this look, oh and my favourite accessories featured in this look are my Versace sunglasses, tie-dye printed clutch bag, and my Chanel earrings.
