Indo-Western Styling Tips
Part 1
The mission is to inspire you to make the most out of statement styling with little to no time on a busy day!
Don’t have the time nor the patience to get dressed for a party from a busy day at work?
Fret not just follow my tips here and you will be well on your way to a smooth transition!
Do you find it stressful rushing from a long day at work to what is supposed to be a recharging party event?
Do you feel exhausted thinking about what to wear?
Easy OFFICE LOOK, LUNCHTIME LOOK, PARTY LOOK
All with the same blouse and pants. We will be making 1 change of shoes and purse from your first look, 2 changes of jacket/overcoat shrug from the first look, 1 change with a shawl from the first look.
NOTE: This will require you to pack a large purse bag with a few extra accessories (rings, 1 set bracelet or bangle set, 2 sets earrings, minimal necklace, chunky necklace), a smaller clutch or belt bag to fit inside, 1 extra pair of stiletto or chunky heel sandals, 2 chunky barrettes, & 2-3 foldable clothing items (leather jacket, light long dress overcoat, shawl/dupatta) that take up little to NO SPACE. Small makeup bag. All things are nice and compact.
PACKING FOR A LONG DAY, which involves 3 events to dress for, can be quite daunting and exhausting just thinking about it! The cool thing about Indo-Western outfits is a small shawl/dupatta changes make a big difference.
Dress for Work Look style# 1
See Images Below
For your office look, you will need a bright and embroidered hip-length blouse, the one pictured is in a silk fabric. Tulip-style dhoti pants or tapered jogger-style dress pants. Knit Blazer, minimal Swarovski earrings, silver watch, thumb ring, midi-ring, main finger-ring. Large handbag to carry extra items, oxford kicks
Tip: Styling a busy shirt or blouse, keep the blazers and pants a solid colour or neat geometric print. Purse, shoes, and blazer are in the same colour shades.
But who said my non-south Asian ladies cannot dress Indo-Western….check out my post on Indo-Western explained, where I show you this is a popular global trend. Women of all ethnicities are getting the hang of this dainty, versatile fashion standard. I love…love all types of ethnic fashion, and love to mix them up with western trendy wear. Fashion is supposed to be fun, not boring, and simple mixing and matching can spice things up as you will see for yourself.
Dress for Lunch Event style # 2
Heading out with the girls for a lunch date in between your work schedule or you have a short day at work? No need to change your entire outfit. Just swap your knit professional blazer style for a leather jacket style. Switch up your flat oxfords for your chunky/stiletto heels. Switch up your earrings and add a pendant-style necklace, throw on a set of bracelets.
LEATHER JACKETS ARE SO VERSATILE in styling. In this look, I did swap out my jogger dress pants, but if you don’t want to pack another pair of pants then just stick with the pants from your first work look. It was just to provide a different perspective.
Dress for Evening Event Look # 3
Here’s option 1 for an evening look. Swap out your leather jacket for a shrug overcoat. All else stays the same except swap out your jewelry for something a bit shinier like Swarovski jewelry, add in a pinky ring. Bring out those lashes and bold lipstick. Throw on a belt purse, you are ready to go. I would change up the hairstyle to either a quick up-do or put on some chunky barrettes.
Long flowy overcoats/capes over jeans & shorts are a hit this year. Overcoat/capes are so versatile and can be made in any fabric. For summer weather I love the georgette, chiffon, cotton fabrics. For winter and fall I would go with warmer fabrics like velvet, and brocade, and even silk.
Dress for Evening Event Look # 4
Option # 2 for evening look simply had a shawl/dupatta drape like a saree. So it is tucked into the pants at the front so the corner falls behind the foot, wrapped around hips and the end is pleated over the shoulder. For this look, I wanted to show you a pant-style saree with distressed jeans. Swap out the minimal jewelry for chunky crystal statement jewelry, throw on a couple of chunky barrettes with a huge side part for a chic hairstyle. If you have room to pack 2 extra pairs of shoes, go with statement shiny stilettos.
Let me know how you like these looks!
